Over at Inside Texas I have an article available for free on what personnel Herman needs to find, add, or develop to get Texas going in year one.
Sounds like replacing D'Onta Foreman will be a major priority. I've been identifying three components as being crucial to Texas' run game dominance in 2016. The RB D'Onta Foreman, TE Caleb Bluiett, and the left side of the OL who were anchored by LT Connor Williams and then quite good with either Jake McMillon or Patrick Vahe with him at LG.
Two of those three components are gone, but the one returning (the left side of the OL) is probably the most valuable and essential. Now Herman just has to fill in the other two spots.
I suspect, but cannot prove, that Orlando's defensive structure and terminology remains the same regardless of personnel. What I mean is that the defense does not change how it aligns when it changes personnel, though it appears to do so based on the play call. So, for example, you'll see the same blitzes whether they are in 3-4, 3-3, or 3-2; all that is changing is who is running it. Thus, as I don't know the Texas roster intimately, its really hard to know who will being playing what in Orlando's system. And it is even harder to know who will succeed in their roles because the system is so multifaceted. Yet I keep thinking to myself "Texas is stocked with great linebacker and secondary players, so they should be fine."
ReplyDeleteIs this the sentiment of the Texas fan cognoscenti, or is there some additional information I'm not aware of?
He'll have to teach his linebackers how to play football because they've been slow on the uptake. Spring install is going to be essential because they apparently botched it last year.
DeleteBut, in terms of physical talents this secondary and LB corps is ideally suited to what Orlando wants to do.
Your blog is very useful for me.I really like you post. Thanks for sharing.
